Forced loans are a form of extortion PDF Print E-mail

The regime’s policy of forcing Banks to lend 6 per cent of their deposits to the agriculture and renewable energy sectors amounts to extortion. Lending to projects that don’t meet normal loan criteria will cost the banks money. So who are the friends of the regime that will be lining up for this money? Will Abdul Khan and his insolvent FSC be lining up to take his share of money for “co-generation” projects as part of the share of renewable resources? His direct interests in supply of co-generation projects to FSC would be registered as a conflict of interest if we had proper governance standards.

The Fiji Sun’s claim that the Japanese Government bowed to pressure from Australia to ban Bainimarama from its triennial Forum of Pacific leaders (PALM) is an insult to the Japanese. Rabuka proposed him for the position of Vice President to Ratu Mara, but the Great Council of Chiefs would not have it, and Josefa Iloilo, who turned out to be the great collaborator with military dictatorship, took the position instead.
